Many people wake up on a Monday morning and dread going into the office, back to the same old dead-end job. How good would it be to wake up and actually look forward to the day ahead? The question often asked is; would you still choose to do your current job if money wasn't an issue and you could retrain to do something different? It's an interesting question and one perhaps that not enough of us give sufficient time to for consideration.

Of course, we have to be realistic. Most of us will never have the opportunity to work altruistically, we have a need to earn money and in order to achieve a better salary, compete for the better jobs. Often that means gaining the qualifications that will prove our competence or separate us from other lesser qualified candidates. The one thing we have under our own control, is the ability to retrain or refocus our career efforts - to choose a career that rewards our efforts and combines intellectual interest (some would say fascination) with commensurate rewards. After all, most of us will spend 40 hours a week, 48 weeks a year for 40 years in work of some kind. Doesn't it make sense to make sure that is time well spent, that work is something we can actually enjoy?

The aim of these pages is to provide a slightly more in-depth understanding of just a few IT based careers to better inform those who may be considering IT as their chosen career path. IT is a dynamic industry - as such, it provides a constant challenge for those with the necessary aptitude and application.

Consider and compare for a moment the Internet technologies of today with those of only 10 years ago - and who knows where we'll be in another 10 years? One thing is for sure, IT will be at the forefront on that change and skilled IT professionals will be in constant and increasing demand.
